Praveen...thanks for your advice...I went from Bangalore to Goa via Karwar and not only was the road excellent...scenery was also awesome...only small issue is the width of the road once you enter the state of Goa...but that is a short stretch till Margao...I had a fantastic drive...

Glad you found the review useful.
I paid a total of $188 (USD) for the tripod and the ball head. That's $118 for the "Manfrotto 190XB 3 Section Aluminum Tripod" and $70 for the "496RC2 Ball Head with Quick Release".
I made the purchase from Amazon US, shipped it to a friends place in the US and got it to India.

Thanks! I'm just looking at this unit on sale. Could I ask what you paid for it? I'm looking at $229 CND (things tend to cost more in here Canada than in the US, though I realize you live in neither country). I liked the feel of it in the store, and I'm only about an inch or so taller than you. I appreciate your review!

Hi, thanks for your comments. we are planning to drive from Blr to Goa in May12 and from reading your experience, am clear that I'll take the Hubli Karwar route. I had earlier driven from Mumbai to Blr and NH4 was a dream.

Hey, just stumbled on your blog... :-) This has since changed & you may have figured this out but it looks more like UST == timestamp. Try a Unix epoch conversion of the first 10 digits (ie 1269345306 == GMT: Tue, 23 Mar 2010 11:55:06 GMT). Guessing it probably was a cachebuster...

Thank you so much I came across this and found out superb and easy technique.
My E6 Just died last weeks after 4 advanturous years(been drawn in the water once and it resurrected twice and just last week the touchscreen just didn't work anymore.) See you're not alone. btw,, you save my life for upload this 'how to'. Thanks again

no, not working.. i have modified my hosts file on 10.6.8, with itunes 10.5, with the original ios 5 ipsw, and using both update and restore buttons.. also clearing the dns cache each time. Iphone 4 GSM, 4.3.3 and extremely frustrated

Hi,

I travelled from B'lore to Goa via Hubli-Karwar on 22nd Dec 2011 and it was an amazing road trip. We were driving a Chevy Beat(5 ppl). Following are few stats for the trip.

We started at 4:30 in the morning
B'lore to Hubli: 4 hours; 413 kms (top speed 145 km/hr) 4 lane road. 3 speed breakers(traffic signs are shown around 200m before the speed breakers) after ChitraDurga

Hubli to Karwar: 2.5 hrs 170 kms (top speed 120 km/hr) 2 lane road. Traffic is less with few heavy vechiles. Minor bad patches in very few places.

Karwar to North Goa: 3.5 hrs 135 kms (top speed 85 km/hr) 2 lane road. Traffic is comparatively more. Some potholes are there.

We took the same route while coming back. This time we started afternoon and reached b'lore at 4 in the morning. The Hubli Karwar road was very dark and driving at higher speed was getting difficult. Also we missed the left turn for NH 63 and lost precious time there. We got 5 speed breakers in NH4 between Hubli and B'lore.

I started from my home in Ramamurthy Nagar, Bangalore East @ 5.45Am took route, tumkur-> chitragurga -> Hubli-> Ankola-> Karwar-> Margoa reached @2.45PM 9.00 hours straight. stopped two time for diesel and one time for lunch. It was a good journey. Approx. 110KM on tumkur road from Blr, you will see Kamat & CCD, you can take a stop for breakfast if you like because after that till Goa, you would not find any decent Dhaba or Reastaurant. After Hubli NH63 till Margoa is a single Road with no road divider, hence you cannot drive at very high speed.

Actually I dont want to drive till Karwar. My destination is just NH17 to continue to Mangalore. So I think the distance is about 135 kms. So it should take 20 minutes or so less. Am I right?
